6-Hour Special Gear Requirements and Instructions:
This is a SOLO competition

Gear and Special Instructions:
The 6-hour event will involve several disciplines. You will need the following items in order to complete the various legs:
 Road bike (mountain bike OK) 
 Mountain bike
 Flat water kayak (other similar OK - no skulls)
 Running shoes (spare shoes recommended)
 
Special Start Instructions and Check-In:
All 6-Hour participants must check in at race headquarters by 8:00 PM on Saturday September 18.  There will be a manditory meeting at 8:30 PM at the race headquarters.
Check-in will begin at 5:00 PM on Saturday.  Be prepared to have your “required” items confirmed by a race official.  Equipment must be confirmed by 8:00 PM.

Official Start:
Participants must be prepared to start beginning at Midnight.  The race may start any time between midnight (Sept. 18) and 10:00 AM on Saturday September 19th.  Camping is available at the start/finish of the race.
A horn will sound with 15-minutes prior to race start. At that point participants will report to the starting area.
A second horn will sound to START the race.  Participants must check in and start within 30-minutes of the START horn, or they will be disqualified. OFFICIAL time starts at the sound of the STARTING horn. 

General Information:
The course will take the winner between five and six hours.  The course will officially close at the 10-hour mark.  Be prepared for anything.

Participants must check in at every check point, and follow the course and route as provided. Course marshalls will monitor progress and rules compliance.

RULES & INFORMATION:
Final rules and instructions will be provided at race check-in.  Some information will be provided during the event. 

HINTS:
 
Knowing Astoria and some of the area history will help you. Learning a bit about Astoria and reviewing some maps may help you.

Required Items:
 Ansi/Snell approved helmet
 USCG approved life jacket
 Bike repair kit - able to repair flats
 Basic first aid kit
 Support Crew (must be able to transport gear and supplies)
 Support crew must have a cell phone. Number must be provided at race check-in.
 Flash light / Head lamp with spare batteries.
 Pen/Pencil and paper/note pad.
 Plastic ziploc bags or similar - 9”x9” or similar.

 

Suggested Items - Not Required:
 Maps of the Astoria region.  Maps of Oregon.
 Compass
 GPS
 Sun Glasses
 Hat
 Gloves
 Extra clothes

Restrictions & Rules:
 Crews may only assist their participant in marked zones.  Teams assisting a participant at any other time will result in the participants disqualification.
 Helmets and relevant safety equipment must be worn at all times when participant is not “on foot”.
 The course may be changed at any time during the event based on safety related issues.  Be prepared.
 All aid must be provided in the “Transition Zones” or carried by the participant.
 All traffic laws and controls must be obeyed.
 Support crews must drive in a safe and legal manner.  All traffic controls, and laws, must be obeyed.
 Support crews are allowed only one vehicle on the course at a given time.  One support vehicle is allowed in the Transition Area at a given time.
